Free Sailing
Pick whichever one sounds least like homework.
Some take fifteen seconds, one takes six minutes. None of them are a test, none of them need an account, and none of them end in somebody trying to sell you a boat.
- 01 Pick your first door There is more than one way onto a boat and the first one does not have to involve sailing. Two taps — how brave you feel, and where you are. You get: real openings near you, each with a link to whoever runs it.
- 02 Your harbour has a superpower Every harbour is disproportionately good at something. Pick one of 2,096 and find out which. You get: one word for what your harbour is actually for.
- 03 Your maritime personality, in five ports Five questions about a single day out. Nothing technical. You get: not a label — five real harbours, ranked for the day you just described.
- 04 Which boat would actually suit you There are about three hundred kinds of sailing boat and most of them would make you miserable. Twelve questions about how you'd rather spend a Saturday — no sailing knowledge needed, and no question you can't answer. You get: one boat named and remembered, two more like it, and the plain reason why — quoted back from your own answers.
- 05 Would you get in it? No questions at all. Sixty-four boats, one photograph at a time, yes or no. First reaction only. You get: the pattern in what you kept, measured against what you were actually shown — and every boat you said yes to, as a gallery you can click into.
- 06 What kind of sailor are you, really? The personality one. Fifteen questions about days out, harbours and weather, then a few practical ones about where you live and how far you'd travel. You get: a character — The Rope Learner, The Storm Tamer, The Board Rider and five others — then three real clubs or harbours near you, with links straight to their own sites.
- 07 Where you would fit in Nine scenes rather than nine questions. Starts by asking which boat you trust least, and gets more specific from there. You get: a crew role, then one named invitation you could actually be offered — what it costs, why a club would say yes, and the nearest place that could host it. Plus the day around it: an event with a real date, somewhere to look at, and somewhere to end up.
- 08 Boat, or not? Every second-hand boat we know about, one at a time. Three answers rather than two — interested, maybe, not for me. You get: a shortlist you can save to your profile, each one linking to the seller's own page.
- 09 Swipe the deals No questions at all. Eighty-seven real sailing offers — free taster sails, crew wanted, discounts — one card at a time. Yes or no. You get: a kept list you can open. Each card shows the country, the original language, and whether it's confirmed still live.
